Web Analytics Overview

Learn how Promptmonitor tracks human visitors and AI bots on your website, and how these insights help you understand both user behavior and AI discovery

Promptmonitor provides simple, privacy-first website analytics that tracks both human visitors and AI bots, giving you complete visibility into your website traffic without cookies, personal data collection, or privacy risks. It is built to be GDPR-compliant by design (General Data Protection Regulation).

Quick Setup Guide

Add this script to the <head> section of your website:

<script src="https://cdn.promptmonitor.io/mayo.js" data-site="your-website-id" defer></script>

You can find your website ID in your project's web analytics page.

This script will track human visitors. To track AI traffic, you need to follow this guide to set up AI Search, Crawler Analytics.

We track two types of traffic

1. Human Visitors

Tracked automatically using the JavaScript snippet above. The script:

  • Script size is 1.5KB (one of the smallest scripts in the industry)

  • Loads asynchronously (doesn't slow down your site)

  • Uses no cookies or personal data (privacy-first)

  • Tracks page views and sessions

  • Works with single-page applications (SPAs)

2. AI/Bot Traffic

AI crawlers (such as GPTBot and ClaudeBot) do not execute JavaScript, so they require server-side tracking.

To see AI traffic in your analytics, you need to set up AI Search and Crawler Analytics.

What We Track

  • Live Visitors: Real-time visitor count

  • Page Views: Total pages viewed

  • Session Duration: Average time on site

  • Bounce Rate: Single-page session percentage

  • Geographic Data: Country-level location

  • Referrer domains: Where your traffic comes from

  • UTM parameters: Campaign tracking

  • Device types: Desktop, mobile, tablet

  • Browser types: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.

  • AI Search, Crawler, and Bot Traffic: Dedicated AI bot insights

Why This Matters

Web Analytics helps you understand:

  • How real users interact with your site

  • How often AI models and crawlers visit your content

  • Which pages are most valuable for both humans and AI
